Gee Ollie, Maybe You Should Have Asked Your Wife, First

From the Hal Roach Studios in 1932 (released theatrically by Metro Goldwyn Mayer), here are Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in "Their First Mistake."

In this one, Mrs. Hardy is irate that her husband Oliver is spending more time with his buddy, Stan.  Ollie tries to adopt a baby, so that the Missus would be occupied while he continues carousing with Stanley.  Thing don't turn out too well for Ollie, as it turns out.

Co-starring Mae Busch and Billy Gilbert, this short, with James Greene as recording engineer, was photographed by Art Lloyd, edited by Richard Currier, and directed by George Stevens (who makes an on-camera cameo as the boys' neighbor).

Please give that goddamned brat an ice cream cone!  That way he would stop bugging you.



From 1934, here's Bosko starring in "Bosko's Parlor Pranks."  This cartoon, produced by Hugh Harman and Rudy Ising and supervised by Hugh Harman, was part of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's Happy Harmonies series, used virtually no new animation.  The animation in this cartoon was reused from Hugh and Rudy's Warner Brothers efforts (they created the first Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons, they left Warners over money and jumped to MGM).  This was due to limitations to fulfill their contractual obligations to MGM during their first year of production. 

More Flip

Here's another cartoon starring Flip the Frog.  Entitled "Bulloney," this one sees Flip caught in flagrani with the bullfighter's girlfriend.  Now, our hero not only fight the old bullfighter, but an even meaner bull.  This 1933 cartoon was produced and drawn by Ub Iwerks for Celebrity Productions and was released theatrically by MGM.

Time For Flip The Frog

From 1933, here's Flip the Frog starring in "Chinaman's Chance."  The cartoon, produced and drawn by Ub Iwerks, was released theatrically by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.  This was one of Flip's last cartoons.

From 1933, here's Willie Whopper starring in his first cartoon, "Air Race, " in which tells this fantastic yarn about himself participating in an airplane race.  This cartoon, produced in Los Angeles by Ub Iwerks at his cartoon studio, was released theatrically by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.  The reason for the header can be found at 4:46 of this video.  After two cartoons, as was the case with another Iwerks star Flip the Frog, Willie would be redesigned, transformed into a freckle-faced, roly-poly redhead.

From 1931, here's Flip the Frog starring in "The Village Barber," produced and directed by Ub Iwerks and distributed theatrically by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.  In this one, our hero goes to the business of being a barber with wild and crazy results.

Back when this cartoon was first released, cartoons were not just for kids. From 1932, here is a Flip the Frog cartoon entitled "Room Runners." It was produced and directed by Ub Iwerks.
