Jason Nightingale scored two tries (worth four points each in Rugby League) in the second half as the St. George Illawarra Dragons broke open a game in which they had trailed 8-6 at halftime and buried the Sydney Roosters 32-8 on Sunday to win Australia's National Rugby League Grand Final. The Roosters were gunning to become the first team since 1934 to win the championship the year after finishing in the bottom of the league standings.

Stephen J. Cannell, R. I. P.
Stephen J. Cannell, one of television's most prolific writers and series creators, whose work encompassed The Rockford Files, Wiseguy, The Greatest American Hero, and The A-Team, passed away on Thursday at his Pasadena, California home from complications from melanoma at age 69.
Art Gilmore, R. I. P.
Art Gilmore, who began his career as a radio announcer in the 1930s and in a career that spanned more than six decades, his voice was featured in more than 2, 700 movie trailers, on radio, television, in commercials and documentaries, passed away last Saturday (September 25) at a convalescent home near his Irvine, California home at age 98.
Mr. Gilmore was the longtime announcer on Red Skelton's TV show as well as the narrator on the old syndicated Highway Patrol series.

In the replay of last weekend's Australian Rules Football Grand Final, which was deadlocked at 68 points apiece, the Collingwood Magpies left nothing to chance as they thrashed the St. Kilda Saints 108-52 on Saturday to win their first Australian Football League championship since 1990 (the Saints are still looking for their first since 1966).
