Harvey Fuqua, singer, songwriter, record producer, and early mentor to the late Marvin Gaye, passed away on Tuesday at a Detroit hospital from a heart attack at age 80.
Mr. Fuqua founded the rhythm-and-blues vocal group The Moonglows, who signed with disc jockey Alan Freed.
The group's first success came in 1954 with the original version of "Sincerely."
By the late 1950s, Mr. Fuqua added Mr. Gaye and others to a reconstituted group called Harvey and the Moonglows, which recorded a big R&B hit (which crossed into the pop music charts) entitled "The Ten Commandments Of Love."
