Barry Zito pitched 7 2/3 innings of six-hit shutout baseball while the bullpen did the rest as the San Francisco Giants avoided elimination on Friday night with a 5-0 road victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in game five of the National League Championship Series, cutting the Cardinals' series lead to three games to two as the series heads back to San Francisco for game six on Sunday. Pablo Sandoval delivered a home run for the Giants for the second straight night.
