The first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs continued with three games on Tuesday.
Eastern Conference:
At Philadelphia:
Danny Briere and James van Riemsdyk scored power play goals in the second period as the Philadelphia Flyers eliminated the Buffalo Sabres by winning the seventh and deciding game of their conference quarterfinal series in dominating fashion, 5-2 at home.
At Montreal:
Brian Gionta scored the winning goal at 5:48 of the third period while Carey Price stopped 31 of 32 shots as the Montreal Canadiens won game six of their first-round series with the Boston Bruins 2-1 at home to force a seventh and deciding game on Wednesday night back at Boston.
Western Conference:
At Vancouver, British Columbia:
Despite failing to connect on the first penalty shot ever to be taken in a seventh game of a playoff series, Alex Burrows scored twice, including the game winner at 5:22 of overtime as the Vancouver Canucks avoided what would have been an epic playoff collapse with a 2-1 home win over the Chicago Blackhawks in the seventh and deciding game of their conference quarterfinal series. Roberto Luongo stopped 31 of 32 Chicago shots. The Canucks will next take on the Nashville Predators in a Western Conference semifinal series.
