This week, our website matinee will start with a 1953 Warner Brothers (Looney Tunes) cartoon, "Southern Fried Rabbit." In this one, Bugs Bunny heads to the Deep South in search of healthy carrots, only to encounter with Confederate soldier Yosemite Sam!
With story by Warren Foster, animation by Arthur Davis, Manuel Perez, Ken Champin, and Virgil Ross, layouts by Hawley Pratt, backgrounds by Irv Wyner, voice characterizations by Mel Blanc, and music by Carl Stalling, this cartoon was directed by Isadore (Friz) Freleng.
Next, from 1940, we bring you The Three Stooges starring in the Columbia Pictures short, "You Nazty Spy." In this one, Moe is appointed dictator of Moronica with Curly and Larry as his top aides. Their brand of government doesn't exactly go over very well with the constituents. With story and screenplay by Clyde Bruckman and Felix Adler, photography by Harry Davis (ASC), and editing by Arthur Seid, this short subject was produced and directed by Jules White.

Time for classic film noir as Producers Releasing Corporation present Tom Neal and Ann Savage starring in the 1945 film "Detour." In this one, a down-on-his-luck night club pianists hitchhikes across the country so that he could be with his girlfriend in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, he made several big mistakes along the way. Claudia Drake, Edmund MacDonald, Tim Ryan, Esther Howard, and Pat Gleason were also in the cast. With screenplay and original story by Martin Goldsmith, music by Leo Erdody, and photography by Benjamin H. Kline (ASC), this motion picture was produced by Leon Fromkess and directed by Edgar G. Ulmer.

Big Sky Tournament: Eagles, Vikings Open With Wins At Home
The Big Sky Conference men's basketball tournament got under way with two games played on Saturday.
At Cheney, Washington:
Cliff Colimon scored 22 points while Laron Griffin added 21 (while grabbing 11 rebounds) as the Eastern Washington Eagles (15-16) defeated the visiting Idaho State Bengals (9-21) 81-75 despite 28 points from the visitors' Kenny McGowan. The Eagles will take on top-seeded Montana on Tuesday.
At Portland, Oregon:
Chehales Tapscott scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the third-seeded Portland State Vikings (17-13) dominated the visiting sixth-seeded Montana State Bobcats (12-17) 75-53. The Vikings will take on second-seeded Weber State on Tuesday.

In the regular-season finale for both schools, Devoe Joseph scored 21 points as the Oregon Ducks (22-8 overall, 15-5 in Pac-12 play), who converted 15 three-point shots, demolished the visiting Utah Runnin' Utes (6-24, 3-15) 94-48 on Saturday, with Jason Washburn's 26 points making up more than half the Utes' team tally. Oregon, who shot 56.5% from the field in the contest, will play in the quarterfinal round of the upcoming Pacific-12 Conference tournament as the #3 seed.

Beavers Coast To Home Win Over Buffaloes And Clinch Second Winning Season In 22 Years (And Lock Up Pac-12 Tourney First-Round Bye For Ducks)

Ahmad Starks scored 18 points, all of them in the second half, while Robert Nelson added 16 and Jared Cunningham 15 as the Oregon State Beavers (17-13 overall, 7-11 in Pac-12 play) defeated the visiting Colorado Buffaloes (19-11, 11-7) 83-69 to clinch only their second winning season in 22 years and lock up a Pacific-12 tournament first-round bye for arch-rival Oregon. The Beavers will be seeded eighth or ninth in the tournament that starts this coming Wednesday.

WCC Tournament: Cougars, Dons Advance
Two more games were played in the West Coast Conference men's basketball tournament on Friday in Las Vegas:
In the opener, Michael Williams scored 19 points while Cody Doolin added 16 as the #5-seeded San Francisco Dons (20-12) held off the #4-seeded Loyola Marymount Lions (19-12) 67-60. The Dons will face top-seeded St. Mary's in Saturday's opening semifinal contest.
In the nightcap, Noah Harsock (who scored 19 points) and Brandon Davis (who added 16) combined for 27 second-half points as the third-seeded BYU Cougars (25-7) held off the stubborn sixth-seeded San Diego Toreros (13-18) 73-68. The Cougars will get their shot at second-seeded Gonzaga in Saturday's second semifinal.
