Three games in the Southwest Region of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament were played on Sunday.
At Chicago:
Two games were played at the United Center. In the opener, #11 Virginia Commonwealth led by Bradford Burgess' 23 points and 8 rebounds, defeated #3 Purdue 84-76 to reach the Round of 16 for the first time in school history.
In the nightcap, #10 Florida State defeated #2 Notre Dame 71-57. Besides pulling down 10 rebounds, Bernard James scored 14 points (and Michael Snaer added 13) for the Seminoles, who are headed to their first Sweet Sixteen since 1993.
At Tulsa:
The Morris Twins combined for 41 points (Marcus with 24 and Markieff with 17) and 24 rebounds (12 each) as top-seeded Kansas pulled away from #9 Illinois 73-59.
