Four games in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's West Region were played on Friday.
At Tulsa, Oklahoma:
#4-seeded Texas held off #13 Oakland 85-81. Tristan Thompson had 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 blocked shots for the Longhorns, helping to offset Reggie Hamilton's 25-point performance for the Golden Grizzlies.
In the second contest, Derrick Williams scored 22 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and blocked a potential game-tying shot in the final seconds as #5 Arizona edged #12 Memphis 77-75.
At Charlotte, North Carolina:
In the first of two games played at the Time Warner Cable Arena, #8 Michigan blew out #9 Tennessee 42-16 in the second half to hammer the Volunteers 75-45. Zack Novak scored 14 minutes, hitting two three-pointers during a second-half spurt that helped turned what had been a hotly-contested game into a rout. He also grabbed 10 rebounds for the Wolverines.
In the second game, Kyrie Irving, playing his first game since last December, scored 14 points as top-seeded Duke destroyed #16 Hampton 87-45.
