NCAA Midwest: Heels, NC State, Ohio U, Jayhawks Advance To Sweet Sixteen

All four third-round contests in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's Midwest Regional took place on Sunday.


At Greensboro, North Carolina:


At the Greensboro Coliseum, before suffering a wrist injury, Kendall Marshall scored 18 points and had 11 assists as the top-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels (31-5) defeated the eighth-ranked Creighton Blue Jays (29-6) 87-73, despite 20 points from the Missouri Valley Conference champs' Doug McDermott.  John Henson scored 13 points and grabber 10 rebounds for the Tar Heels.


At Nashville, Tennessee:


At the Bridgestone Arena, Walter Offutt scored 21 points as the Ohio Bobcats (29-7) advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1964 with their 62-56 victory over the South Florida Bulls (22-14).


At Columbus, Ohio:


At the Nationwide Arena, Lorenzo Brown hit three free throws in the final 10.6 seconds as the North Carolina State Wolfpack (24-12), the #11 seed, upended third-seeded Georgetown (24-9) 66-63.  C. J. Williams, Scott Wood, and C. J. Leslie each scored 14 points for the Wolfpack, offsetting the 23-point performance from the Hoyas' Hollis Thompson.


At Omaha, Nebraska:


At the CenturyLink Center, Elijah Johnson scored 18 points as the second-seeded Kansas Jayhawks (29-6) defeated tenth-seeded Purdue (22-13) 63-60 despite 26 points from the Boilermakers' Robbie Hummel.
