NCAA Tournament First Four: Catamounts, Bulls Avoid Impersonating Mississippi Valley State And Iona And Advance

The opening round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament concluded with two games played on Wednesday at Dayton, Ohio.


In the opener, freshman Four McGlynn came off the bench to score 18 points as the Vermont Catamounts (24-11) raced to an early double-digit lead and defeated the Lamar Cardinals (23-12) 71-59.  On Friday, Vermont will take on top-seeded North Carolina in Midwest Regional action at Greensboro, North Carolina.


In the nightcap, Victor Rudd, Jr. scored 15 points as the South Florida Bulls (21-13) picked up their first-ever NCAA Tournament win, 65-54 over the California Golden Bears (24-10).  The Bulls will take on fifth-seeded Temple on Friday in Midwest Regional action at Nashville, Tennessee.
