In a battle of teams that underwent all sorts of recent turmoil, Texas Tech (9-4), with Ruffin McNeill as interim head coach, replacing the fired Mike Leach, defeatedMichigan State (6-7) , minus 14 players suspended in the aftermath of a November dormitory brawl, by the score of 41-31 in Saturday's Valero Alamo Bowl. Backup quarterback Steven Sheffield (replacing an injured Taylor Potts---who had thrown for an Alamo Bowl-record 372 yards and two touchdowns) marched the Red Raiders downfield in eight plays, culminating in the game-winning 11-yard touchdown pass to Detron Lewis in the fourth quarter.
