C. J. Wilcox scored a career-high 24 points as the Washington Huskies (8-5 overall, 2-0 in Pac-12 play) took advantage of Oregon's 32% shooting from the field in their 76-60 Saturday win over the visiting Ducks (10-4, 1-1)

Onterio McCalebb ran for 109 yards and scored two touchdowns (a three-yard run and a 25-yard reception) as the Auburn Tigers defeated the Virginia Cavaliers 43-24 in Saturday's Chick-fil-A Bowl.  Both schools finished the season at 8-5.

Liberty Bowl: Bearcats Hold Off Vandy

At Memphis, Tennessee:


Isaiah Pead ran for 149 yards and a touchdown while Ralph David Abernathy IV's 90-yard kickoff return early in the fourth quarter proved decisive as the Cincinnati Bearcats (10-3) held off a game challenge from the Vanderbilt Commodores (6-7) 31-24 in Saturday's Liberty Bowl contest.

Fight Hunger Bowl: Fighting Illini Snap Six-Game Skid By Beating Bruins

At San Francisco:


In a matchup of schools that fired their head coaches, Terry Hawthorne returned an interception 39 yards for a touchdown while Nathan Scheelhaase threw the game-winning 60-yard TD pass to A. J. Jenkins as Illinois (7-6) ended a six-game losing streak on Saturday with a 20-14 win over UCLA (6-8) in the Kraft Foods Fight Hunger Bowl.

Brock Motum scored 26 points and DaVonte Lacy added 18 as the Washington State Cougars (9-5 overall, 1-1 in Pac-12 play) defeated the visiting Oregon State Beavers (10-4, 0-2) on Saturday despite 21 points from the Beavers' Jared Cunningham.

Sun Bowl: Utes Erase 14-Point Deficit And Take Out Jackets In OT

At El Paso, Texas:


Quarterback Jon Hays threw three touchdown passes, two in the fourth quarter (three yards to Kendrick Moeai, then 28 yards to DeVonte Christopher with 1:32 remaining), then John White ran eight yards in overtime for the game-winning score as the Utah Runnin' Utes (8-5) came back from down fourteen points to force overtime, then defeated the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (8-5) 30-27 in Saturday's Sun Bowl Game.

Meineke Car Care Bowl: Aggies Hold Off Wildcats For First Bowl Win Since 2001; Northwestern Still Seeking First Bowl Win Since '49

At Houston:


Quarterback Ryan Tannenhill threw for 329 yards and a touchdown while running back Ben Malena ran for two more scores as Texas A&M (7-6) held off Northwestern (6-7) 33-22 in Saturday's Meineke Car Care Bowl.  The win was the first in a bowl game for the Aggies since 2001 while the Wildcats, whose last bowl win came in the 1949 Rose Bowl, have lost an NCAA record-tying ninth straight bowl game.

Blake Bell ran for three touchdowns on Friday night as the Oklahoma Sooners (10-3; #14 in the final BCS rankings) downed the Iowa Hawkeyes (7-6) 31-14 in the Insight Bowl.

Bobcats Top Visiting Vikings

At Bozeman, Montana:


Xavier Blount scored 24 points (making six of eight three-pointers) and Christian Moon added 21 as the Montana State Bobcats (6-7 overall, 1-1 in Big Sky Conference play) defeated the visiting Portland State Vikings (6-8, 0-2) 86-73 on Friday.

Music City Bowl: Bulldogs Hold Off Demon Deacons

At Nashville, Tennessee:


Vick Ballard ran for 180 yards (a career high) and two touchdowns on Friday as the Mississippi State Bulldogs (7-6) held off the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (6-7) 23-17 in the Music City Bowl.  The victory was the Bulldogs' fifth straight in bowl games.

Pinstripe Bowl: Scarlet Knights Top Cyclones In The Bronx

Running back Jawan Jamison ran for 131 yards and two touchdowns as Rutgers (9-4) defeated Iowa State (6-7) 27-13 in Friday's Pinstripe Bowl.

Alamo Bowl: RG3 Runs And Throws For TD In Possible Farewell As Bears Outgun Huskies In Offensive Slugfest

At San Antonio:


Running back Terrance Ganaway ran for 200 yards and five touchdowns on Thursday night as the Baylor Bears (10-3; #12 in the final BCS rankings) picked up their school record-tying tenth win of the season as they outlasted the Washington Huskies (7-6) 67-56 in the Alamo Bowl.  


In what may have been his final game in a Bears uniform, quarterback Robert Griffin III threw for one touchdown (11 yards to Kendall Wright) and ran for another (24 yards).


The 123 points scored Thursday night marked an NCAA record for most combined points scored in a bowl game in regulation time.  The 1,377 combined yards of total offense is also a new NCAA single-game bowl record.

Champs Sports Bowl: E. J. Guides Seminoles In Comeback Win Over Irish

At Orlando, Florida:


Quarterback E. J. Manuel threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter (18 yards to Bert Reed; 15 yards to Rashad Greene) as the Florida State Seminoles (9-4) erased a fourteen-point second half deficit and upended Notre Dame (8-5) 18-14 in Thursday's Champs Sports Bowl.

Olu Ashaolu scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Devoe Joseph added 17 points to guide the Oregon Ducks (10-3 overall, 1-0 in Pac-12 play) to a 92-75 road win over the Washington State Cougars (8-5, 0-1) on Thursday night in both schools' Pacific-12 Conference opener.  The Ducks, in winning their fourth straight game, shot 69% from the field as the Cougars' six-game winning run ended.

Charles Odum Not Enough: Vikings Drop Conference Opener To Round Out Rough Night For Portland Schools

Kareem Jamar scored 17 points while Art Steward and Will Cherry each added 15 as the Montana Grizzlies (8-5 overall, 1-0 in Big Sky action) won their third straight game overall, 75-64 at home over the Portland State Vikings (6-7, 0-1) on Wednesday in the Big Sky Conference league opener for both schools.  Despite 27 points from Charles Odum (hitting eight of thirteen shots), the Vikings have dropped their third straight game.

Zags Too Much For Pilots In Conference Opener

At Spokane, Washington:


Kevin Pangos converted five of this seven three-point shots as he scored 19 points on Wednesday as the Gonzaga Bulldogs (10-2 overall, 1-0 in WCC play) brassknuckled the visiting Portland Pilots (3-11, 0-1) 90-51 on Wednesday night in the West Coast Conference league opener for both teams.  It was the Zags' 17th straight win over the Pilots, who have now lost seven successive contests overall.  It was Gonzaga's fifth straight victory overall.

Holiday Bowl: Horns Top Cal Bears

At San Diego:


Quarterback David Ash threw for a touchdown (47 yards to Marquise Goodwin) and caught a four-yard pass from Jaxon Shipley for another score as the Texas Longhorns (8-5) defeated the California Golden Bears (7-6) 21-10 in Wednesday's Holiday Bowl.  The Longhorns had five takeaways and sacked Cal's Zach Maynard six times. 

Military Bowl: Rockets Win Wild One

At Washington:


Quarterback Terrance Owens threw three touchdown passes, all to Bernard Reedy, the last one with 5:01 second remaining as the Toledo Rockets (9-4) defeated the Air Force Falcons (7-6) 42-41 in Wednesday's edition of the Military Bowl.  After the Falcons' Zach Kauth's 33-yard touchdown run with 52 seconds left, they lined up for the extra point.  However, holder David Baska ran the option, only to see the pitch to kicker Parker Harrington go low, bouncing out of bounds in the end zone.

Little Caesars Pizza Bowl: Boilermakers Hang On For Win

Raheem Mostert ran back a kickoff for 99 yards and a touchdown, running back Reggie Pegram scored the first three TDs of his career, and the Purdue Boilermakers (7-6) successfully recovered both of their onside kickoff attempts enroute to a 37-32 win over the Western Michigan Broncos (7-6) in Tuesday's Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.

Independence Bowl: Big First Half Makes Thing Easy For Mizzou

At Shreveport, Louisiana:


James Franklin ran for two touchdowns (both two yards) and threw for another one (eight yards to Jerrell Jackson) as the Missouri Tigers (8-5) manhandled the North Carolina Tar Heels (7-6) 41-24 on Monday in the Independence Bowl.  The game was the Tigers' final football match as members of the Big 12 Conference.  They will join the Southeatern Conference next year.

Quarterback Austin Davis threw for two touchdowns, including the fourth-quarter game winner to Kelvin Bolden (4 yards) as the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (12-2; they placed 21st in the last BCS rankings) defeated the Nevada Wolf Pack (7-6) 24-17 in Saturday's Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.  The 12 wins were a USM single-season school record as Larry Fedora coached his last game for the Golden Eagles before taking over as North Carolina's head football coach.

Niners Top Seahawks In Bruising Battle; Seattle Eliminated

At Seattle:


Frank Gore ran four yards for a touchdown while David Akers kicked four field goals (increasing his total to an NFL single-season record 42), including the game winner from 39 yards with 2:57 remaining as the San Francisco 49ers (12-3) held on to the number two seed in the National Football Conference playoffs following their 19-17 road win over the Seattle Seahawks (7-8) on Saturday, eliminating the hosts from playoff contention.

Dario Hunt scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds on Thursday as the Nevada Wolf Pack (9-3) made it six wins in a row by handing the visiting Portland Pilots (3-10) their sixth successive setback 78-60.  Olek Czyz added 15 points, Jerry Evans, Jr. 11, and Malik Story 10 for the Wolf Pack.  Kevin Bailey scored 15 points to pace the sagging Pilots.

Quarterback Casey Pachall delivered a 42-yard touchdown pass to Skye Dawson with 4:26 remaining as the Texas Christian Horned Frogs (11-2; ranked #18 in the last regular-season BCS rankings) came from behind to upend the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (-85) 31-24 in Wednesday night's Poinsettia Bowl.  The win was TCU's eighth in a row, ending the Bulldogs' seven game winning streak in the process.

Devon Collier scored 19 points to lead five players in double figures as the Oregon State Beavers (10-2) smothered the Chicago State Cougars (0-12) 92-66 on the road Wednesday night in the Beavers' final non-conference game.  Roberto Nelson and Jared Cunningham scored 16 and 15 points respectively for OSU.

New Orleans Bowl: Ragin' Cajuns Pull Out Last-Second Win

At New Orleans:


Brett Baer, who had missed two extra points and had a 46-yard field goal wiped out by a false-start penalty, connected on a game-winning 50-yarder as time expired on Saturday night as the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns (9-4) defeated the San Diego State Aztecs (8-5) 30-29 in the New Orleans Bowl.  It was the Cajuns' first bowl appearance in the top level of college football.


Cajuns' quarterback Blaine Gautier threw for 470 yards and three touchdowns.

Grizzlies Bear Down On Pilots

At Portland, Oregon:


Will Cherry scored 17 of his 20 points in the second half on Saturday night as the Montana Grizzlies (6-5) defeated the Portland Pilots (3-8) 80-65 on the road.

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl: Late TD Lifts Bobcats Past Aggies

At Boise, Idaho:


Quarterback Tyler Tettleton, who threw for two touchdowns, ran for the winning score from one yard out with 13 seconds remaining as the Ohio University Bobcats (10-4) overcame a 10-point second-half deficit to overtake the Utah State Aggies (7-6) 24-23 in Saturday's Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.  The victory capped off the Bobcats' first ten-win season since 1968.

Saint Xavier Wins First NAIA Football Crown

At Rome, Georgia:


Quarterback Jimmy Coy completed 28 of 43 passes for 216 yards and a touchdown and ran for 78 yards on 16 carries and ran for another score as the Saint Xavier (IL) Cougars defeated the Carroll (MT) Fighting Saints 24-20 for their first NAIA national football championship on Saturday.

New Mexico Bowl: Owls Get Bowl Season Going With Dominating Performance Against Wyoming

Bernard Pierce ran for two touchdowns (one yard each) while quarterback Chris Coyer threw for 169 and a touchdowns as the Temple Owls (9-4) picked up only the second bowl win in their history, 37-15 over the Wyoming Cowboys (37-15) in Saturday's New Mexico Bowl as the 2011-12 bowl season commenced.

First D2 Title For Gorillas In 20 Years

At Florence, Alabama:

The Pittsburg State (KS) Gorillas (13-1) defeated the Wayne State (MI) Warriors (12-4) 35-21 on Saturday to win their first NCAA Division II national football championship since 1991.  In the second quarter, as the Warriors' Stefan Terleckyj lined up to attempt a 22-yard field goal, the Gorillas' Paul Robinson blocked the kick and teammate Aries Herrion scooped it up and ran it back 80 yards for a Pitt State touchdown, one of two such scores from blocked kicks.  Gorillas quarterback Zac Dickey passed for 190 yards and ran for 68 more in the victory.

Just Another D3 Title For The Warhawks

In a battle of undefeated teams, Levell Coppage ran one yard for a touchdown as the Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks (15-0) defeated the Mount Union Purple Raiders (14-1) 13-10 on Friday night to win their third consecutive NCAA Division III national football championship, and their fourth in five years---all four titles coming at the expense of the Purple Raiders.  The win was the Warhawks' 45th in a row.

Former Minnesota Golden Gopher Devoe Joseph scored 18 points in his first game in an Oregon Ducks uniform as the Pac-12 club (5-2) defeated visiting Fresno State (4-6) 74-70 on Saturday.  Garrett Sim, who made all five shots from the field and all four free throws,  added 17 points for the Ducks while E. J. Singler added 14 for Oregon.

Wolverines Top Vikings In High-Scoring Affair

Holton Hunsaker scored 26 points (converting all 16 of his free-throw attempts in the process) while Isiah Williams added 20, Ban Aird 15, and Geddes Robinson 11, as Utah Valley State (6-5) defeated visiting Portland State (5-3) 93-87 on Saturday.  The Wolverines made 33 of 35 shots from the Charity Stripe.

Broken Record: Navy Beats Army Again

At Landover, Maryland:


Quarterback Kriss Proctor ran for two touchdowns and Alexander Teich ran for another score while Jon Teague kicked a pair of field goals on Saturday as Navy (5-7) defeated Army (3-9) 27-21 in the 112th edition of the football game between the two service academies.  The win was the Midshipmen's tenth straight in the series, which they now lead 56-49-7.

Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, the humble son of two retired Army sergeants, beat out his Stanford counterpart Andrew Luck in winning the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night.  Alabama running back Trent Richardson finished third.

Broncos Too Much For Pilots

At Boise, Idaho:


Ryan Watkins scored a career-high 19 points (to go with his nine rebounds) while Derrick Marks added 16 and Westly Perryman 13 as the Boise State Broncos (8-1) dominated the visiting Portland Pilots (3-6) 92-70 on Wednesday night.

Harry Morgan, R. I. P.

Harry Morgan, the veteran actor who appeared in over 100 movies and who co-starred in such television series as December Bride, Pete and Gladys, Dragnet (the 1967-70 version), and M*A*S*H*, passed away on Wednesday at his Los Angeles home at age 96.



His son, who confirmed Mr. Morgan's passing, said that his father had been treated recently for pneumonia.


Harry's best remembered role was that of Colonel Sherman T. Potter, commanding officer of the 4077 Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War on M*A*S*H* from 1975 until the series ended in 1983.

Beavers Turn Grizzlies Into Bear Rugs; OSU Off To Best Start In 31 Years

At Corvallis, Oregon:


Ahmad Sparks led a balanced attack with 16 points while Jared Cunningham added 14, Roberto Nelson 11, and Devon Collier 10 as the Oregon State Beavers (6-1) dominated the visiting Montana Grizzlies (4-4) 71-46 on Sunday night as the Beavers are off to their best start since the 1980-81 season.

REMATCH ON: IT'S LSU VS. 'BAMA FOR BCS CROWN; DUCKS FINISH 5TH IN BCS RANKINGS

Alabama held off Oklahoma State for the number two spot in the final Bowl Championship Series rankings released on Sunday so the Crimson Tide will again take on the LSU Tigers, this time in the BCS National Championship Game, to take place on January 9 in New Orleans.

COWBOYS BURY SOONERS IN BEDLAM BOWL TO CAPTURE BIG 12 CROWN AND BCS BOWL BERTH; OSU STILL HOPING FOR SHOT AT LSU

At Stillwater, Oklahoma:


Joseph Randle ran for 151 yards and two touchdowns while Richetti Jones returned a fumble for another score as the third-rated (Bowl Championship Series ranking) Oklahoma State Cowboys belted the visiting #10-ranked Oklahoma Sooners 44-10 to claim the Big-12 Conference championship on Saturday night.  The question is:  Will it be enough for the Cowboys to overtake #2-ranked Alabama when the final BCS rankings come out on Sunday?

BADGERS COME BACK TO TOP SPARTANS; GET SHOT AT DUCKS IN PASADENA

At Indianapolis:


Montee Ball carried the ball 27 times for 137 yards and three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with 3:45 remaining as the Wisconsin Badgers, ranked #15 in the Bowl Championship Series rankings, came from behind to defeat the #13-ranked Michigan State Spartans 42-39 Saturday night in the inaugural Big Ten Conference Championship Game.  The Badgers will face the Pac-12 Champs Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on January 2.  Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson, who competed 17 of 24 passes for 187 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions, was named the game's Most Valuable Player.

Clemson Blasts Hokies, Wins First ACC Title In 20 Years

At Charlotte, North Carolina:


Tajh Boyd completed 20 of 29 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns while Andre Ellington ran for 125 yards and a TD as the 20th-ranked Clemson Tigers (10-3) manhandled the #5-rated Virginia Tech Hokies (11-2) 38-10 on Saturday night in the Atlantic Coast Conference's Championship Game as the Tigers claimed their first ACC title since 1991.  The win assured Clemson of appearing in a BCS bowl game.  The rankings used here were from the Bowl Championship Series.

Brian Conklin scored 19 points on seven-for-seven shooting from the field as the 23rd-ranked (AP) Saint Louis Billikens (7-1) dominated the visiting Portland Pilots (3-5) 73-53 on Saturday.

At Portland, Oregon:


Nate Lozeau scored 18 points while Charles Odum added 17 as the Portland State Vikings (5-2) destroyed the visiting NAIA Division II Walla Walla Wolves (1-12) 102-47 on Saturday.

Cougars End Ducks' Winning Streak

At Salt Lake City, Utah:


A 23-point, 12-rebound performance from Noah Hartsock, along with 16 points from Stephen Rogers, who hit four of seven three-point shots, enabled the BYU Cougars (6-2) to end the Oregon Ducks' (4-2) four-game winning streak 79-65 on Saturday.

Austin Davis threw for 279 yards and four touchdowns on Saturday as the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (11-2; ranked #24 in the Bowl Championship Series rankings) knocked off the #6-ranked (BCS) Houston Cougars (12-1) 49-28 in the Conference USA Championship Game, handing the Cougars their first loss of the season and ending Houston's hopes of landing in a BCS bowl.

HUSKIES ERASE 20-POINT DEFICIT TO WIN FIRST MAC TITLE SINCE '83

At Detroit:


Quarterback Chandler Harnish threw two of his three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter while Mathew Sims kicked the game-winning 33-yard field goal on the final play as the Northern Illinois Huskies (10-3) came back from a 20-point halftime deficit to defeat the Ohio University Bobcats (9-4) 23-20 Friday to win the Mid-American Conference Championship Game.  The MAC title is the Huskies' first since 1983.

LAMICHAEL RUNS WILD AS DUCKS TOP UCLA FOR THIRD STRAIGHT PAC-12 TITLE AND ROSE BOWL BERTH

At Eugene, Oregon:


Running back LaMichael James, named the game's Most Valuable Player, ran for 219 yards and three touchdowns as the Oregon Ducks (11-2, ranked #9 in the BCS rankings) defeated the visiting UCLA Bruins (6-7), 49-31 in the inaugural Pacific-12 Conference Championship Game on Friday night.  The win assured the Ducks, winners for their third successive conference crown, of their third straight appearance in a BCS bowl, in this case, next month's Rose Bowl (their second in three years).
