First D2 Title For Gorillas In 20 Years

At Florence, Alabama:

The Pittsburg State (KS) Gorillas (13-1) defeated the Wayne State (MI) Warriors (12-4) 35-21 on Saturday to win their first NCAA Division II national football championship since 1991.  In the second quarter, as the Warriors' Stefan Terleckyj lined up to attempt a 22-yard field goal, the Gorillas' Paul Robinson blocked the kick and teammate Aries Herrion scooped it up and ran it back 80 yards for a Pitt State touchdown, one of two such scores from blocked kicks.  Gorillas quarterback Zac Dickey passed for 190 yards and ran for 68 more in the victory.
