Saints Deny NCAA D2-Bound Cougars In Winning Sixth NAIA Gridiron Crown

At Rome, Georgia:

Quarterback Gary Wagner ran for 75 yards and scored the game's lone touchdown as Montana's Carroll College Saints held off South Dakota's University of Sioux Falls Cougars 10-7 to win their sixth NAIA national championship on Saturday.  The Cougars' Braden Wieking's 46-yard field goal attempt with 8.4 seconds remaining in regulation time went wide left, denying the Cougars----playing their final NAIA game before transitioning to NCAA Division II next year---a third staight NAIA national title, and snapping the South Dakota school's NAIA record-tying 42-game winning streak.
