MLB Divisional Playoffs: Rays Silence Rangers Bats In Blowout

The Major League Baseball divisional playoffs commenced on Friday with the opening games of the two American League divisional playoff series.

At Arlington, Texas:

Matt Moore pitched seven innings of two-hit shutout ball, while Kelly Shoppach belted a pair of home runs as the Tampa Bay Rays demolished the Texas Rangers, 9-0 on the road in the opening game of their ALDS best-of-five series.

The opening game of the other American League divisional playoff series, between the visiting Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees, was suspended in the second inning due to rain with the score deadlocked at one run apiece.  The game is scheduled to be resumed on Saturday.
