Wildcats Have Easy Opener; Washington, New Mexico, Wake Forest Win Close Contests

EAST REGION:

At New Orleans:

Top-seeded Kentucky blew out #16 East Tennesse State 100-71.  Eric Bledsoe paced the Wildcats with 29 points.

Al-Farouq Aminu had 20 points and 15 rebounds and Ishmael Smith hit the game-winner with 1.3 seconds remaining in overtime carried ninth-seeded Wake Forest to an 81-80 win over eighth-seeded Texas.

At San Jose, California:

Quincy Poindexter hit the winning bank shot with 1.7 seconds remaining to lift 11th-seeded Washington past 6th-seeded Marquette 80-78.

Roman Martinez scored 19 points as 3rd-seeded New Mexico held off 14th-seeded Montana 62-57.
