CARDINALS OVERCOME EARLY DEFICIT TO COP 11TH WORLD SERIES CROWN

Cards win 11th World Series


Chris Carpenter pitched six strong innings on three days' rest and the bullpen did the rest as the St. Louis Cardinals erased an early two-run deficit to defeat the visiting Texas Rangers 6-2 in game seven of the World Series on Friday to win their first world championship since 2006 and their 11th modern-era title overall.  David Freese, who had a double in the game, was named World Series Most Valuable Player.
