National League Divisional Playoffs: Brewers, Phillies Take Series Openers

The National League baseball playoffs began on Saturday with the opening game of each of the two best-of-five divisional playoff series.


At Milwaukee:


Yovani Gallardo pitched eight innings of one-run baseball while Prince Fielder hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning as the Milwaukee Brewers took the opening game of their divisional playoff series, 4-1 at home over the Arizona Diamondbacks.


At Philadelphia:


Ryan Howard hit a go-ahead three-run home as part of a five-run sixth inning as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the visiting St. Louis Cardinals 9-3 in game one of their divisional playoff series.
