NBA Playoffs: Cavs, Hawks, Celtics, and Nuggets Take Series Openers

The National Basketball Association playoffs commenced on Saturday with four games.

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

At Cleveland:

LeBron James scored 24 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers took the opening game of their conference quarterfinal series with the Chicago Bulls 96-83 at home.

At Atlanta:

Joe Johnson scored 22 points as the Atlanta Hawks  built up a 22-point halftime lead, then coasted to a game-one 102-92 home win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

At Boston:

Paul Pierce scored 16 points and Kevin Garnett added 15 to offset Dwayne Wade's 26 at the Boston Celtics defeated the visiting Miami Heat 85-76 at home in their series opener.


WESTERN CONFERENCE:


At Denver:

The Denver Nuggets took game one of their conference quarterfinal series at home with the Phoenix Suns 126-113.  Carmelo Anthony scored 42 points, a playoff career high, to pace the Nuggets.
